Humility and the Comparison Trap
Due to technical difficulties, this sermon was unable to be recorded. Please enjoy Pastor Corky's manuscript.
Our pride might be the greatest obstacle to our becoming nothing. We live in a world where humility is seen less and less, and where the comparison trap is in full play. To be clear, our worth comes from God, not how we stack up against others and their somewhat fake profiles and image management.
The beatitudes tell us "blessed are the meek,” for they will inherit the earth. But we have a minimalistic view of being meek. Meek is strength restrained, it is holy humility. I think in this world we can be humble or we can be humbled, what a difference one letter makes. I would also add we can be humble or we can be humiliated, which is even worse. Now is the time to put to death our pride and the unhealthy comparison traps that drive our distorted self worth.
